Cardiff STAR's Run for Calais

My Story

Hello, we are Cardiff STAR (Student action for Refugees). We are a group of Cardiff University students who volunteer at local refugee projects, campaign for refugee rights and aim to educate others about refugees and asylum seekers.

During the height of the global pandemic, hundreds of migrants in the Calais Jungle have faced brutal evictions leaving many without basic supplies. This is the most police action that has been seen in Calais since 2016 and has left many devastated. With times being challenging enough as they were with the struggles of a pandemic on top of them, these violent police evictions have been a callous addition to the difficulties that those in the jungle already faced. People who have fled their own countries in order to escape hardships and to find peace have experienced police firing tear gas and setting fire to tents.

This is why this September, Cardiff STAR has decided to fundraise in order to raise money that can be spent to replace the supplies damaged in these evictions including tents and sleeping bags. We have decided to support Care for Calais because they are working tirelessly to help those in Calais. They are working on the ground to ensure people have food, shelter, protecting their rights and distributing emergency supplies.

A few of our members have challenged themselves to do a 10k Run in order to raise awareness, we would love if you joined in!

Rules:

1. Run 10km, you can walk it, break it up or do it all in one go if you're feeling brave!

2. Donate what you can to our fundraiser or share our Calais information post to spread awareness of the atrocities of the Calais evictions.

3. Tag 3 people to rise to the challenge

Thank you.
