Bibby Stockholm to Parliament
Calum MacDonald
My Story
The 7th of August will mark a year since asylum seekers were first housed on the Bibby Stockholm barge. The people being housed there have fled from humanitarian crises, political persecution and war zones. In the media and in politics they are no longer referred to as people, simply as objects in the term “stop the boats”. It is vitally important that we remember the people on these boats are human beings who should be afforded the same human rights that we expect for ourselves.
I am running from the Bibby Stockholm to Parliament to raise money for Care4Calais. They do amazing work providing direct aid to refugees in Calais, Dunkirk and in the UK, as well providing access to legal support for asylum seekers. They have been campaigning relentlessly to stop housing asylum seekers on the Bibby Stockholm, with Labour thankfully announcing it will end the contract in January 2025. However, the future of the Wethersfield mass asylum accommodation, which the High Court has deemed not suitable for any migrants, remains undecided.
If you can donate anything towards Care4Calais' amazing work to prevent the unjust treatment of the most vulnerable people in our society, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much
